Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conduct advanced forensic techniques such as chemical testing, bloodstain pattern analysis, and latent print examination.
- Use forensic techniques to identify, document, and process physical evidence in accordance with legal requirements.
- Processes and properly stores evidence obtained.
- Takes digital photographs and videos to thoroughly document a scene.
- Testify in court and present evidence effectively as required.
- Investigate traffic crashes and assorted traffic complaints.
- Respond to and prepare written reports for motor vehicle crashes and delayed crimes.
- Enforce parking and non-criminal traffic laws in specified areas throughout Town.
- Check for Code violations, i.e., abandoned, inoperative vehicles.
- Check patrol areas for traffic obstructions, i.e., blocked signs, hedges obstructing corner view of traffic, vehicles parked too close to intersections. Handle traffic control issue including at school crossings, special hazardous situations, special events, etc.
- Observe and report damaged public streets, street signs, and malfunctioning traffic control devices.
- Deliver messages and paperwork, and transport witnesses and complainants.
- Handle non-threatening calls for service and related paperwork as directed.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Skills required for report writing.
- Knowledge of the Town’s policies, procedures, and practices of the Police department.
- Knowledge of the codes and ordinances to be enforced.
- Knowledge of accident investigations, criminal justice system, and traffic enforcement.
- Knowledge of crime scene processing, evidence collection, and handling procedures.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in reaching conclusions and in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Ability to analyze complex administrative and operational problems and situation, identify alternative solutions and propose effective and reasonable courses of action, and implement recommendations.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
- Skill in the operation of personal computers and various software.
- Ability to use photographic equipment and forensic equipment.
- Understanding of forensic techniques, including chemical testing and bloodstain pattern analysis.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Town officials and the general public.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements and Special Requirements
- Candidate must possess a high school diploma.
- Candidate must possess or be able to obtain within one (1) year a Parking Enforcement Specialist certification.
- Candidate must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license.
- Candidate must complete a recognized Crime Scene Investigator training program or equivalent experience.
- Forensic photography certification or training is preferred.
- Specialized training in forensic analysis such as latent print examination or bloodstain pattern analysis is highly desirable.
