Job Description
This is a virtual, contract-based (1099) position. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the areas of estate planning, trust administration, and real estate title work, with a solid understanding of Florida State Law and Procedures. While Florida residency is preferred, candidates outside of Florida with proven experience in Florida law will also be considered.
As a Freelance Estate Planning Paralegal, you'll play a crucial role in drafting, organizing, and reviewing legal documents, as well as assisting clients through various virtual platforms. You will collaborate with clients, attorneys, and other team members to keep cases organized, meet deadlines, and ensure smooth operations. Strong attention to detail, proactive communication, and the ability to work independently are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft and review estate planning, trust administration, and real estate title documents in compliance with Florida state law.
Obtain necessary documents and records from clients and state and local agencies.
Prepare and review pleadings, discovery, and legal documents related to estate planning and trust administration.
E-file legal documents and assist with discovery propounding and responses.
Manage calendars, schedule hearings, and track important deadlines.
Meet with clients via phone, Zoom, or Google Meet as necessary.
Maintain and organize electronic case files and client records.
Support attorneys by managing schedules and providing timely reminders for deadlines.
Conduct legal research as needed.
Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, opposing counsel, and judicial offices.
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in estate planning, trust administration, and real estate title work, specifically in Florida law.
Must be a full-time freelancer with no current W2 employment.
Availability to work Monday to Friday during daytime hours, within the time zone that the client operates.
Paralegal certificate or bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe programs (must have personal access to these).
Experience with legal software such as Wealth Counsel/Form Builder (WestLaw) and Clio is a plus.
Tech requirements: 8 GB of RAM (16 GB preferred) and an SSD. Windows 10 Pro or 11 Pro is preferred.
Work Hours and Compensation:
Hours: Up to 10 hours per week, with potential for more as needed.
Compensation: $30 per hour, paid bi-monthly. This is a 1099 contract position.
