RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Demonstrates a professional, unconditional, caring, listening presence, including the ability to assist others in finding within themselves, their values, and their beliefs the strength to discover peace on their journey.

• Creates a meaningful presence of time, listening, caring, encouragement, hope, humor, and prayer to each individual, respectful of their spirituality and compassionate to their needs.

• Ensures that religious, spiritual, cultural, emotional and ethical needs of patients, their loved ones, and employees are met. Assists others as they seek to integrate their personal, spiritual, and addiction recovery journeys. Facilitates theological reflection as appropriate.

• Collaborates frequently with Counselors, Care Coordinators, and Hospital Unit staff. Interacts in a timely and efficient manner that promotes goodwill and group cohesiveness.

• Promotes the spiritual dimensions of Recovery Services including one-to-one and group meetings with patients to discuss spiritual concepts pertinent to the recovery process.

• Provides resources (e.g. lectures, worksheets, in-service sessions) to promote patient and employee learning related to spirituality. Focus of spirituality services are inclusive and geared towards each individual patient's beliefs. Spiritual services focus on connection with self, others, and/or a higher power.

• As a collaborative member of the healthcare team, the Spiritual Advisor provides spiritual care; participates in departmental activities; denominational and community relationships; and performs all duties in ways promoting organizational and departmental missions and values.

• Plans and organizes daily spiritual care for patients. Through personal contacts and data evaluations, develops and initiates spiritual care plans, charting when appropriate, for all patients and employees.

• Provides support, resource, and leadership for the programs, initiatives, and on-going department functions and goals as assigned.

• Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with Serenity Lane policies, procedures and regulatory agencies and conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.

• Supports the vision, mission and values of Serenity Lane in all respects.

• Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the organization's corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.

• These essential functions will be included in your annual performance reviews.

Qualifications/Licensure

• Bachelor's Degree or Master of Divinity degree or equivalent preferred.

• Clinical Pastoral Education training and experience working in the medical field as a Pastor/Chaplain a plus.

• One year of full-time Pastoral experience, or equivalent.

• Two units of ACPE Certified CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) required.

• Familiarity with substance use treatment or 12 step programs a plus.

• Certification by a chaplain certifying agency such as, but not limited to: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) within 2 years of hire.

• Board certification or membership of Spiritual Care Association.

• CT APCC - Board Certification with NACC, APC, NAJC, or ACPE within two years of hire. Applicant that is eligible for certification must demonstrate their progress toward certification. Provision to extend the one year time frame may be granted on occasion for emergencies. Good standing requires maintenance of Continuing Education and Peer Review requirements for renewal of certification while observing a professional code of ethics required by your Professional Organizational Standards. Endorsement by ecclesiastical authority required.

• Supervised clinical training with a minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education in an accredited ACPE hospital center.
