Project Accountant - Construction

Position Overview
Based in Fairfield, CA, we are a well-established leader in Environmental, Construction, and Remediation services. The Project Accountant will manage all financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate accounting, budgeting, and reporting. This role focuses on job costing, change orders, and project closeout, providing financial insights to support project managers and stakeholders in decision-making.

*This position is fully onsite and will include office manager duties as well.*

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Perform job costing analysis to track project expenses and profitability.
  • Oversee and process change orders, ensuring proper documentation and approvals are in place.
  • Assist in project closeout procedures, verifying all financial obligations are met before project completion.
  • Collaborate with project managers to provide financial insights and recommendations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilize accounting software and tools (Sage, Coupa, Ariba, Textura, Taulia) to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to stakeholders, highlighting key metrics and performance indicators.
  • Support procurement activities by analyzing costs and financial impacts of purchasing decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in project accounting within the construction/environmental industry.
  • Proficient in accounting software, particularly Sage, as well as procurement tools like Coupa, Ariba, Textura, and Taulia.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, job costing, and financial reporting processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience in office management.
