SUMMARYJOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Laboratory Skills The Research Assistant II is responsible for the daily organization and associated duties of working with myeloma banking samples and handling and processing research biospecimens from each assigned protocol. Interaction with the research nurses may be necessary to obtain patient blood, BMA, and tumor samples. The individual must maintain accurate and detailed records. Alertness and careful attention to detail must be always maintained. Utilizes laboratory equipment to carry out sample processing and biospecimen storage. Coordinates and conducts experiments and carries out research projects in varied areas of chemistry, biology and other biomedical related basic science areas. Constructs, assembles and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment. Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project. Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested.
Molecular and Cellular Biology Perform laboratory work in molecular and cellular biology including but not limited to DNA preparation, RNA extraction, PCR, flow cytometry, tissue processing, proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, tissue culture, and magnetic cell separation. The candidate will oversee the scRNAseq processing, will process BMA samples from single cells to GEM generation and cDNA amplification and will plan and execute the library construction (GEX, BCR and TCR). This position requires the use of a specific instrument, the 10X Chromium Connect; prior experience with this machine is preferred. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to receive training and perform a wide range of biological and molecular techniques. Must work independently to see that samples are obtained and processed in a timely and consistent fashion. This requires both an understanding of the methodology and the ability to independently troubleshoot problems and to ask for help when appropriate.
Reporting Must be able to understand the research protocols fully. The candidate would be required to attend and speak in front of the lab members in the weekly meeting. Maintains thorough, accurate, legible, and organized handwritten and digital records of all Myeloma Tissue Bank-assigned protocols by SOPs. Works with directors and members of the MTB lab team to resolve problems encountered in executing work duties.

Education Required - Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Experience Required - One year experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
