Job Description

About Us

Blue Channel Therapy (BCT) was founded three years ago to address severe, ongoing gaps in services for children who have survived trauma, especially for low-income families in the Denver Metro area. Blue Channel Therapy has expanded to 3 offices in Arvada, Aurora and Northglenn to serve most of the counties in the Metro-Denver Area. We implemented a strong internship program in collaboration with local universities and initiated an externship program to develop and train pre-licensed therapists to help meet Colorado's high need for therapists/counselors who treat low-income children. We are highly motivated to support and train a diverse community of therapists to meet the demand for more Spanish speaking, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ therapists.

The mission of Blue Channel Therapy is to improve the quality of life for children, youth, and families through affordable, high-quality mental health therapy provided by therapists and interns trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Our vision is to reverse the impact that adverse childhood experiences have on current and future generations.

The Opportunity

We are seeking passionate, committed individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a vital role in advancing our mission, ensuring strong organizational governance, and strategic decision-making. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of a growing organization and make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people affected by trauma.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to an organizational culture that respects the diverse, individual perspectives and contributions of staff and leadership.
  • Provide strategic oversight, guidance, and governance to support the organization’s mission and sustainability.
  • Contribute expertise, skills, and perspectives to help shape programs, operations, and organizational growth.
  • Participate actively in quarterly board meetings.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization, advocating for our mission and helping to expand our network of supporters.
  • Engage in fundraising and development efforts to support organizational sustainability. There is no requirement for personal financial contributions.
  • Oversee financial management and review and approve an annual budget and review quarterly financial reports
  • Act at all times in accordance with the highest ethical standards and in the best interest of the Blue Channel Therapy, its members, constituents, donors and reputation.

What We’re Looking For

We value diversity of background, perspective, and experience.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A strong commitment to advancing mental health equity.
  • Professional skills in areas such as research, development, and finance/accounting or related fields.
  • A collaborative spirit, open-mindedness, and a willingness to actively contribute.
  • No prior board experience is required—we welcome individuals eager to grow into this role.

We believe that poor/unacceptable behavior on the part of businesses and government disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society, including people of color, people from lower-income backgrounds, women, LGBTQIA+ people, and people with disabilities. Because we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities. We recognize that being the only person with a specific identity on a board is not ideal, so we welcome paired cohort applications. This means two people would apply together, and if selected, both would join the board or decline together.

What You’ll Gain

As a member of our board, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Be part of decreasing youth suicide and improving people’s quality of life.
  • Be immersed in a supportive, welcoming, and mission-driven community.
  • Develop or deepen leadership and governance skills.
  • Work alongside other dedicated individuals committed to making a difference.
  • Increase nonprofit management skills and knowledge.

Meetings and time commitment

The board of directors meets quarterly (January, April, July, October) on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. We meet virtually and try to keep the meeting length within one hour. The board also participates in periodic fundraising activities. BCT board members commit to a 2 year term with the option to renew up to 2 times.

How to Apply

To express interest or learn more, please contact Maia Longenecker at maia@bluechanneltherapy.org. Upon inquiry, we will forward an application form.
