JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Plant Manager to lead the operations of our chemical manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in chemical plant operations, a strong technical background in complex batch and continuous-flow processes, and the ability to drive business results. As the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations, including production, safety, quality control, financial management, and continuous improvement. You will play a critical role in ensuring the plant runs efficiently, meets regulatory compliance, and achieves operational and financial targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operational Leadership:
- Direct and manage the daily operations of the plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective production. Lead cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality, and safety. Implement operational strategies and monitor performance to optimize production efficiency. Drive customer satisfaction by delivering the right quantities on time.
- Production Optimization:
- Ensure the plant operates at optimal capacity, focusing on minimizing downtime, improving process efficiency and reliability, and maximizing throughput without compromising safety or quality standards.
- Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE):
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture within the plant. Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations, environmental laws, and corporate safety standards. Lead safety training programs and initiatives, conduct regular safety audits, and risk assessments to maintain a zero-incident environment.
- Quality Management:
- Oversee quality control and assurance processes to ensure all products meet the required specifications and industry standards. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality.
- Financial Management:
- Work closely with leadership to create and manage the plant’s budget, including product costing, capital expenditures, and operating expenses. Monitor and improve plant P&L performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high production standards.
- Team Development:
- Lead, coach, and mentor plant employees, including supervisors and managers, to ensure high performance. Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to environmental, health, and safety standards. Manage plant inspections and audits, ensuring full compliance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior management, engineering, R&D, and other departments to align plant operations with company goals and strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- A Master’s degree (MS) or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field. Strong technical background with a deep understanding of chemical manufacturing processes, organic chemistry using homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts.
- Experience:
- Strong understanding of the chemistry and process engineering involved in batch/continuous production of chemicals at the ton to 1,000-ton level.
- 10+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership position.
- Proven ability to manage product costing, budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
- Experience in adapting production planning and performance to meet customer requests.
- A hands-on mentality with a proven track record of establishing successful cooperation from the shop floor up to management, based on an approachable and collaborative leadership style.
- Business and Financial Acumen:
- Strong interest in the business side of operations, including market trends, product costing, P&L, and overall financial management. Experience with budgeting, and cost management is a plus.
- Commercial Awareness:
- A solid understanding of the chemical industry’s commercial landscape, customer needs, and competitor dynamics, with the ability to align plant operations with business goals.
- SHE Expertise:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards, with a proven track record of leading initiatives that ensure compliance with both internal and external safety regulations.
- Leadership Skills:
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing operational challenges. Open-mindedness for interaction with subject matter experts and colleagues from other sites within the broader network.
