Resident Engagement Specialist – Construction Liaison and Relocation Support
Job Summary:
The Resident Engagement Specialist – Construction Liaison and Relocation Support plays a vital role in supporting residents impacted by construction activities. The ideal candidate will bring strong community engagement experience as well as tenant relocation assistance to this role. Our future co-worker must have experience with construction professionals.
This hybrid position enhances communication between residents and construction teams, ensuring that technical details are clearly explained in human terms and that the relocation process is smooth, empathetic, and well-coordinated. Spanish-speaking candidates are strongly encouraged to apply to better serve our diverse resident population. Some travel within New York State is required to support relocation logistics and engage with residents and partners across different sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Resident Engagement & Community Relations:
· Foster a positive, welcoming atmosphere and build trust with residents prior to, during, and after construction activities.
· Address resident questions and concerns related to construction impacts (e.g., noise, access, safety).
· Conduct regular check-ins, through individual or group sessions to gauge satisfaction and proactively address emerging issues.
· Produce and maintain publicly available information about planned activities, events, or other notable occurrences.
· Prepare and present internally key metrics that demonstrate our outreach activities and outcomes associated with them.
· Establish relationships with external partners who may be critical to our success, including but not limited to governmental entities, non-profit organizations, workforce development groups, and social service providers.
· Organize and participate in resident events or information sessions to explain construction timelines and impacts.
Construction Liaison Duties:
· Serve as the bridge between the construction and engagement team to ensure full and robust awareness and transparency between residents and construction. .
· Translate construction plans, schedules, and activities into plain-language communications for residents.
· Participate in construction planning meetings to stay informed and share resident feedback.
· Assist in developing communication materials (e.g., notices, diagrams, FAQs) to reflect accurate and timely construction updates.
· Attend community meetings and field visits to provide real-time technical context when needed.
Relocation Support:
· Coordinate and facilitate the relocation process for residents affected by construction.
· Support residents in identifying suitable housing options and navigating move logistics.
· Liaise with leasing, property management, and construction teams to align move-out/in timelines with project phases.
· Offer practical and emotional support throughout the relocation journey.
Communication & Coordination:
· Act as the main point of contact for residents during construction and relocation efforts.
· Maintain consistent and transparent communication regarding project timelines, housing availability, and logistics.
· Establish metrics for engagement activities throughout the lifecycle of a project.
· Track and document relocation activities and resident communications.
Collaboration:
· Partner with property management, maintenance, leasing, and construction teams to ensure project and resident alignment.
· Coordinate with external vendors (e.g., movers, utilities) for seamless service delivery.
Training & Policy Support:
· Participate in training related to construction, engagement best practices, and relocation services.
· Support the development of procedures and policies that center resident needs during construction.
Qualifications:
· College degree in Construction Management, Urban Planning, preferred.
· 4+ years of experience in construction, property management, resident engagement, or relocation support.
· Strong understanding of construction processes and the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
· Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills; strong emotional intelligence.
· Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.
· Proficient in MS Office Suite; experience with construction scheduling software or property management systems is a plus.
· Knowledge of local housing options and relocation logistics is a strong asset.
Availability for occasional evening or weekend work related to resident outreach or construction activity.
Working Conditions:
· Full-time position with periodic after-hours responsibilities for urgent resident needs or community meetings.
· Frequent on-site presence at construction and residential locations.
· Travel within New York State to support residents and coordinate with external partners.
Salary Range: $75,000 – $103,000
